FAQ
Questions schools ask
How long is the assembly and who is it for?
Each assembly is 50 minutes, for the whole school together in the gym, JK to Grade 6.
How much does it cost?
$400 + HST for one 50-minute show, or $700 + HST for two shows at the same school on the same day. Instruments, sound system, the big-screen show and setup are included.
School dances, career talks, classroom sessions and technical services are quoted on request, usually within 24 hours.
How much setup time does Jamie need?
About 90 minutes in the gym before the show starts. Teardown after the show is quicker. If the gym is in use until just before the assembly, say so on the form and Jamie will plan around it.
What does the school need to provide?
The gym or multi-purpose room with floor space for students to sit, a projector and screen, standard wall power near the stage end, one table, and a staff member who knows the room.
What does Jamie bring?
Piano, accordion, trumpet, a sound system sized for a gym, the big-screen show, and everything needed to run it. Nothing for your staff to prepare, print or rehearse.
How do we pay?
By cheque payable to Jamie Mahn. An invoice comes with the booking confirmation. Jamie Mahn is HST registered and the HST number appears on the invoice. Purchase orders are fine.
How do we book a date?
Use the Request a Date form with a preferred date and a backup. Your date goes on hold and Jamie confirms within 24 hours by email. No deposit is needed to hold a date.
Can we do two shows in one day?
Yes. Two shows at the same school on the same day are $700 + HST. Schools use this to split a large student body into two groups, or to run a morning show and an afternoon show.
What happens on a snow day, or if we have to cancel?
If the board closes schools, the show moves to the next date that works for both of us at no charge.
Which schools and boards does Jamie work with?
Elementary schools across Waterloo Region, from both the Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) and the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB): Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and the Townships.
Is the content appropriate for young students?
Yes. The shows are written for JK to Grade 6. The Oktoberfest Assembly is school-safe on purpose: the grown-up songs stayed home, and what's left is the music, the local history and the dances.
Does Jamie need anything from our staff during the show?
No. One performer runs the whole thing. For the Oktoberfest Assembly there is an optional surprise where a staff volunteer wears the Uncle Hans costume and walks in during the show. That's the only staff role, and only if you want it.

What a principal said
Jamie Mahn has offered recorder lessons to two classes. The students have been so enthusiastic that even in this limited time, they have performed twice for our parent community. An excellent 60 minute music presentation was made to our intermediate students, as part of our curriculum planning.Shirley Thornton, St. Margaret of Scotland School, Kitchener · 2002
